WoW how the time is flying by! May was a fun filled month. I can't believe we are at 9 months and it couldn't be more fun. This month
Asher has changed so much. He is desperate to crawl or walk or do
anything that involves movement. He tries and tries, but is still not
quite able to make those first baby steps. He has moved on from the Jump-a-roo phase however as he doesn't want to sit still anymore. So we found a walker for him. He LOVES it! Anyway, getting ahead of
myself.
The month started with Drew making a trip to New York for Grad
School. While he was gone, Asher and I decided to make a trip to Grandma
and Gramps house. It's such a blessing to live close enough to visit and
spend time with them. We all love it and Asher has such a blast.
Getting help with Asher is such a blessing and I know the Grands love
having him visit as well.

Asher also had his first over night with the Grands while I went
to Chicago. It was fun to visit my brother for an evening but I also missed
Asher terribly. It's strange how even being away from him for a short
time takes my breath away. I just genuinely love being with him.
But I know it was good for him and for me. Mission accomplished.

We drove to the airport on Sunday to pick up Drew and when Asher
saw him he started laughing. He laughed for at least 10 minutes. It
was an amazing moment. I guess he missed him. While Drew was gone
we did face time on the iphone and Asher would be so confused. He kept
trying to kiss Drew through the phone. It was sweet and sad all at the
same time. Needless to say we were happy to have him home! Life is
a lot harder without Drew home. We miss him so much. We make a good
team. :)

I celebrated my first “official” Mothers Day. It was a strange feeling and I actually
forgot all about it until Drew left. He
reminded me and said he was going to bring me something. But I told him I really just wanted a camping
rocking chair so that let him off the hook.
He was happy about that. But when
he got home he had a card for me and he had written the most beautiful poem. He’s done this at other times, but really not
since we were first married. I was so
surprised and honored. Drew is a
keeper.
Asher got sick this month for the first time other than
teething. He woke one morning when Drew
and I were experiencing bad seasonal allergies and Asher was rubbing his eyes
and coughing like he had a tickle in his throat. I knew it was allergies but when I called the
Dr. they said they can’t diagnose children’s seasonal allergies and that there
was nothing I could do. By the end of
the day he was wheezing and so I took him in.
The Dr. said he needed breathing treatments, so he put him on a
breathing machine and Asher was to have them as often as I thought he needed
them.

He was so good when he took
them. He sat really still and put the
tube in his mouth almost the whole time.
When he went in for his check up, the Dr. said he had a small ear
infection and I should wait a few days to give him the medicine as it might
clear up on its own. I liked that
advice. Except that he didn’t get
better. So he took the medicine and
seems to be ok. Having a baby is so
hard. We are responsible for this little
person who can’t communicate with us and we are basically guessing on what’s
wrong with them. And if we are wrong,
there is so much of that MG (mom guilt) that shows up making me feel
horrible. I’m so thankful to have God
with me each step. Praying that the Holy
Spirit will guide our decisions and help us make good choices for Asher is such
a comfort because most of the time I don’t feel like I know what I’m
doing. I’m so thankful to have a happy
baby.
We hung out a bunch in May, which was nice. We went to some friend’s house on Memorial
Day to have dinner and hang out. We also
went to some other friend’s house to have a bon fire. Asher seemed to like that. He was pretty hyper and not wanting to go to
bed when it was time. I think he likes
the outdoors. :)

Speaking of the outdoors, we FINALLY went on our camping
trip! Oh my word, it was SO fun! Asher
had a blast! He slept amazingly well, loved the tent, loved the dirt, loved the
lake, loved taking naps in the stroller, and loved the attention of friends and
the 2 dogs there. The only thing that
was an issue were the mosquitoes. They were
crazy bad. Any bug spray that we had
didn’t even touch them. They were swarming
so much that the first night we had to watch the fire from inside our
tent. My camping rocker came in super
handy to put Asher to sleep. He fell
asleep as I rocked him while watching the fire and listening to good
conversation among friends.

Asher had his first time in water outside of bathtubs and
LOVED it! He kept walking out and wanted to go in the deep water! I think he’s gonna be a kid I have to keep my
eyes on. He’s full of adventure and
curiosity. The dogs would come up to him
and lick him and he would laugh so hard.
I can’t wait to one day be able to give him his first puppy. He is going to love it.

I remember there being a moment when everyone had finally
fallen asleep and I was lying in my bed with Asher next to me and Drew next to
him. I looked up and saw thousands of
stars and heard the loons in the lake.
In that moment, all was right in the world. All was calm.
All was perfect. All was
blessed. God is so good to us. I was so thankful to have time away in the
woods and to have Asher love it as well.
The last weekend we decided to head again to the Grands as
it was Gramma’s birthday as well as Aunt Tomi.
It was fun to hang out with both of them and celebrate 2 important
people in our lives. I’m so thankful to
have these women in my life to help me raise Asher. They both have so much wisdom and to see them
pour themselves into Asher and us is such a blessing. Loving them both.
Asher had his 9 month appointment and is growing like
crazy! He is now 23.9 pounds and in the
98% for his age. His length is in the
75% but the Dr. said that’s normal. At
this appointment they drew blood to check some levels and also gave him a
physical. He’s doing great! He has a few little dry skin patches in some
places but Dr. H said that it’s nothing to worry about and he could grow out of
it. Overall, Asher is doing great! He’s right on track for everything.
